Dr. M. Channa Reddy
Dr. Marri Channa Reddy S/o Late Lakshma Reddy was born on January 13, 1919 and hails from Siripuram Village in Vikarabad constituency. He has been very popular as student leader right from his school days and he took his MBBS degree in 1941.

Dr. Marri Channa Reddy was a national leader and a titan of Indian politics who was loved by his people and adored by his followers. Nature has endowed him with exceptional qualities a sharp intellect, unerring political instincts, organizational skills and administrative acumen which made him a formidable figure of over 50 years in national politics and Government.

He was the General Secretary of Andhra Maha Sabha. He was actively involved in the struggle against the Nizam. Dr. Reddy was not only among the top leaders in Hyderabad who were in prison but was also the youngest. He was minister for Agriculture and Food, Planning and Rehabilitation in Hyderabad State from 1952 to 1956. He was elected to State Assembly again from Vikarabad in 1957. In 1962, he was elected from Tandur constituency. He was Minister for Finance, Planning, Panchayatraj and Education from 1964 to 1967. He was elected to Rajya Sabha. He was appointed as Minister for Steel, Mines and Metals in the Union Cabinet.

Dr. Marri Channa Reddy was an Indian Politician active in several states. He was the Governor of Uttar Pradesh (1974-1977), Governor of Punjab(1982-1983), Governor of Rajasthan (1992-1993) and Governor of Tamilnadu from (1993-1996). He also served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1978 to 1980 and from 1989 to 1990.

Dr. Marri Channa Reddy was married to Smt. Savitri Devi and had three sons and a daughter. During his tenure he travelled many countries, USA, UK, Rome, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Belgium, Pakistan, West Germany, Egypt, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Rumania and USSR.Under the Chairmanship of Dr. Marri Channa Reddy, “VIKAS MANDALI” the parent voluntary organization of the college was formed and Sree Anantha Padmanabha Arts, Science and Commerce College was established in the year 1968 at Vikarabad.

The aims and objectives of ' Vikas Mandali '
To develop the township and adjoining areas of Vikarabad, Tandur, Pargi and Chevella taluks of erstwhile Hyderabad (Ranga Reddy) District, Andhra Pradesh with a view to

  • Bring about Socio-economic well being and welfare of the inhabitants therein.
  • Organize to develop Educational, Medical facilities through the agency of Societies, funds or through other resources by establishing schools, colleges and hospitals.
  • Bring through all possible and/or practical means, cultural progress and development of the people in the region.
  • Encourage sports or such schemes and do all acts, things at matters which in, the opinion of the Executive Council general public at large and to the persons inhabiting the taluka of Vikarabad for their socio-economic, physical educational, cultural development activities.
  • To enlarge the territorial jurisdiction or sphere of operation of the activities of the society.
  • To do such other things which are incidental and conducive to the attainment of the above objectives.

National Service Scheme was introduced in the college in 1975.
The college has four NSS units with 400 volunteers including a Girls' unit.
